This last tuesday we had a high school track meet and as I began my warmup for the 3200, i was feeling very stiff. I have been running in Reebok's Realflexes as a transition shoe and decided that i wanted to try running in my huaraches. The warmup felt great with my sandals on and i finally got up to the starting line for my race. Then at the last second the official calls me over and tells me I have to put some real shoes on. This frustrated me quite a bit because i simply do track for the enjoyment of running and not for any competition. I did not have my shoes nearby so i got disqualified. Has anyone tried doing this at a meet or seen it done? I'm trying to see if its really against the rules.

You'll have to ask a high school coach to give you the rules.

I know that high schools are notorious for having really arbitrary rules that they'll DQ you for. Boulder county has a "no earrings" rule, for example… in fact, I just found out it's a "no jewerly at all" rule.

College meets, and Masters meets (which are often open to non-college, and non-masters athletes) are more lax. I've run in both of those barefoot or in Invisible Shoes.
