Running a half marathon

Hey everyone,

My name's Matt. I ran cross country in high school, and love running. I was the most improved runner on my team of over 100 kids, 2 years in a row. My PR was 15:58. I always ran on the balls of my feet (how you run barefoot), even with my big bulky trainers. The coaches thought it was weird how my shoe was worn down (the heel was nearly untouched).

After high school, I stopped running for a while. I researched barefoot running, and realized this is the most efficient running technique. Now, as a sophmore in college, I bought fivefingers and invisible shoe huaraches. I am getting back into running, and I plan on racing in a half marathon in a few months. I just thought I'd post here, and let you know…I will post back here again after the race and let you know how I do. I plan on training/racing in either my huaraches… or purchase either the NB zero road, or the Merrel road glove.

Matt

Welcome! Just make sure you are ready for that distance and can run it safely. I learned from experience that it is better to start slowly and gradually. There will always be more half marathons if you are not ready. And getting set back from running due to a stress fracture sucks.

Thanks for the advice.

I do admit, I am pushing it a little bit (with the time crunch). The race is on June 24th, and I haven't ran in a while. I just started running this week and im extremely sore. After two weeks, I'm going to try following ryan hall's 10-week training for a half marathon, which can be found here:
