I just got my pair of huaraches in the mail and went on a first run, It felt in the first few minutes wierd but then felt really fun and smooth. (plus I don't feel problems in my knees so far as I did with sneakers)

So now after that run and after my calfs and feet feel like they had been reawakened I was wondering if you had tips on how much should I run to begin with in the first few weeks.

Also I was browsing through the forums a bit and notices there was a bit of talk about runnig posses and momvments, and I was wondering if I could get some tips as a newbie runner (wasn't running much before due to knees).

Thanks,

Take a look at this post, "How NOT to start barefoot running."

Let me know what you think.

Cool, that did answer some questions in my mind. I'm also happy I did sevral things there already (and feel as well).

What about the second part of my question… is there any tips on achieving good form? or is that only something I will have to notice myself with my own body language? (I'm assuming the answer is somwhere in the both area?)

Thanks again,

I think the best way to learn is:

a) Feel it, experiment, play

b) Every now and then, make a video of yourself and see what you see.

In other words, "good" form is personal and a bit unique (beyond the basics: don't overstride, place/lift your feet intsead of push/pull, lift with your hip flexor rather than push off with your toes, land forefoot or midfoot but don't think you need to keep your heel off the ground, keep your core engaged so you have a "tight spring")

A small update,

I currently am running 5k, which I have never done before, it feels great and most importantly I have no knee pain or injuries,

Thanks for all the tips, I hope to be sending a video soon of me running to get some more tips from you guys (need to find the friend who has the time to help me with that Laugh )
