I developed a little pain in my left foot and read that it could be caused by morton's toe (which is pretty pronounced on my lefty -.25 in or so)

Anyone else have this same problem? I'm wondering if there are any exercises or streches that could help.

Thanks

I've got Morton's Toe as well, but never had any pain as a result of it.

I too have pain in the second toe underneath and believe it is from the knot and over doing it..i have only ran 6 miles in them, but that may have been too much.  It on ly gets irritated when I run and land wrong on it..it is only my left second toe too.

Keep in mind, that whenever there's a unilateral problem (you only have it on one side), the question to ask is "What's different about my GOOD side, since that side isn't having a problem?"

It's VERY common to see someone who, for example, overstrides with only one leg. (I'm not saying that's what you're doing… just highlighting that unilateral problems are great sources of information)

I just recently started running barefoot and I've experienced this pain as well. I have Morton's toe and mega-flat feet. I read an awesome article on Mark's Daily Apple where a study done back in 1905 showed a picture of a foot that had never known a shoe vs one that always had. The free foot had mortons toe and the prisoner did not.

Also gives you some strengthening exercises you can do at your desk in class or at work.

You just made my day!

I found out yesterday that I have MT, 1.5 cm (6/10") on both sides and I was just wondering if I was some weird sort of exception or if I just had an extreme amount of luck as I have not had any issues of importance since I started running a year and a half ago (except wet feet, lol).

When I found out about MT I was extremely concerned as I am now starting BFT and just got my huaraches and a pair of toe-socks per mail.

I am slightly above average in speed and I have a good form, mid-foot striker. Maybe it's related to the fact that I use to walk barefoot a lot since my childhood and that I do a lot of toe strengthening exercises.

But I swear that I was really scared after reading yesterday about my "condition" and the horror stories that people tell. But again, if MT is as wide spread as 40-50% of the population I can't understand why the MT genes hadn't been just wiped out by the sheer pressure of natural selection: The Greeks had it and it was considered perfect then… and these guys use to run a lot and the same goes for the Romans.

Well, I will in any case take it easy and start adding minutes and miles slowly to my minimalist training.
