Hello; I thought I would post to those knowledgable on barefoot running as I transition over.  I am not completely barefoot running, more minimalist at this point but I noticed such a HUGE difference it has absolutely floored me (no pun intended!)..am getting some huaraches this week.

The only con I have in my transition is that my glutes are so sore!  The left side is probably more pronounced than the right but – wow are they sore, almost achy after a run.  That being said I am dumbfounded at how I can run so much quicker and never be out of breath.  Sometimes I actually feel like I am not getting as much of a workout – is that how it should be??

Either way, as much as I love this newfound efficiency if anyone can shed some light on the sore glutes issue I would appreciate it~!  I am taking into account transition and time to adjust.  I am hoping it is due to new technique and perhaps I never really used 'glute power' from the hip much before.  Have run shod all my life and always had a myriad of feet, glute, knee and hip flexor problems on a small scale.  ALL soreness everywhere vanished after going to minimalist running, the only thing that hurts at all is my glutes.  Even my uber-sensitive feet are fine…?

Never had any glute soreness, but had some in the calves when transitioning.  You'll love running in the huaraches.  I made the switch a while back.  Went from "stability shoes' recommended by some kid in a running store, to 6mm Contacts from InvisibleShoe.com.   I've never been happier.  I ran a 1/2 marathon in those old heavy NB shoes, and felt like I had a pound of lead on each foot by the end of the race.  I only run in my huaraches now, and won't go back.  I posted a review of them after the first 100 miles.  It's at http://www.PrimitiveHealth.blogspot.com if you want to check it out.  Good luck with your huaraches!

Hey, nice blog!  I did review the Huaraches there also after going to it.  I will be interested to see how the 6mm works.  I am glad to hear they work so well for you.  If you didnt put it one of your posts how long did your transition take?  i.e. how long before you worked up to half marathon distance again.  Thanks for the input!

Sorry it took so long to respond to this!  I started transitioning slowly.  Tried about 1 mile distance, had some minor calf soreness for the first few days.  I regularly run about 3-5 miles per day in the 6mm contacts now.  My distances were back up after about 6 months, but I intentionally took it slowly.  Hope you are having great results!
