Who is behind Invisible Shoes?
As a member of the Boulder Barefoot Running Club, I made my own huaraches with hi-tech rubber sole material from Vibram and and some eye-popping cords. When the other runners saw my huaraches, they asked for their own… which turned into a huarache making party on the sidewalk of the University of Colorado (we got a lot of looks, ranging from “What are you doing?” to “Hey! It’s those sandals!”)
After making huaraches for most of the BBRC regulars, it was founders Michael and Jessie (of Run Bare) who said, “These are great. You should make these for everyone!” and Invisible Shoes was born.
So you know, I’m not a distance runner. I’m a sprinter. I never ran more than a mile, and rarely more than 20 seconds at a time, until I went barefoot. I did my first 5k without shoes!
But I’d tear my feet up if I went barefoot on the CU track, so I wear my huaraches for my warm up and cool down. And I wear them when I’m just walking around town.
The only problem I have is that it’s impossible to just walk in Invisible Shoes. At some point while I’m out and about, I’ll always find myself breaking into a run for a mile or so (don’t tell my sprinting coach!).
And my wife, who’s not a runner at all, loves to walk around in her Invisible Shoes, too (I sold her on them when I made the first pair with purple lace, her favorite color).
Enjoy the freedom of Invisible Shoes hi-tech huaraches!
